Standing At The Gates…

Hello friends . . . grace and peace

In our class here at St. George’s College, we have not officially “gone up” to the city of Jerusalem.  The stage is being set.  We have been to the place of John the Baptist’s birth.  We have seen and been on the mountains surrounding Mount Zion (Jerusalem).

Fr. Ralph has been humming and singing an old spiritual.

“I’m climbing up, up, the rough side of the mountain
Climbing up to Zion to see my Lord.
I’m Climbing up, up, the rough side of the mountain
Climbing up to Zion to see my Lord.”

That is the chorus and the verses go like this,

“Brother won’t you listen? Oh Yes. Sister won’t you listen? Oh Yes.
Brother won’t you listen? Oh Yes. Climbing up to Zion to see my Lord.”

The last verse asks,

“See the Gates up Yonder? Oh Yes.
See the Gates up Yonder? Oh Yes.
See the Gates up Yonder? Oh Yes.
I’m Climbing up to Zion, Climbing up to Zion,
Climbing up to Zion, To See My Lord.

The pilgrims from St. Thomas are climbing.  We are open to see what the Lord wants us to see.  We got a taste in church yesterday morning.  In the Eucharist we joined Palestinian Christians, Maori Christians, New Zealand Christian, Australian Christians, U.K. Christians and probably Christians from several other countries.  I’m not sure how many languages we heard during the service.  We were blessed and saw the gates up yonder.  We were together.

peace to you
